Mr. Alex was born and raised in South Los Angeles with his nine sisters and brothers. He attended Saint Columbkille and Holy Cross School(s) before entering Mount Carmel in 1973. Over the next three years, he served as Class President and played football, earning All Santé League Honors in 1975.

Mr. Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Southern California and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University at Dominquez Hills. He currently is enrolled at Walden University where is pursuing his doctorate in Public Policy and Administration with an emphasis in Criminal Justice.

Mr. Alex is a graduate of the following executive programs: FBI’s Southwest Command College, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Leadership Institute Class #3, California State University at Los Angeles Law Enforcement Leadership Program, University of Southern California’s Delinquency Control Institute and Management Development Programs, International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators Executive Development Training Institute, National Center For Missing and Exploited Children Chief Executive Seminar, California College and University Police Chief’s Association P.O.S.T. Executive Workshop, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Leadership and Executive Development Training, and the Simon Wiesenthal Tools For Tolerance For Law Enforcement Leadership Initiatives and Advanced Leadership Development for Command Staff.

Mr. Alex holds a State of California Clear Teaching Credential in Law Enforcement Occupations and has taught classes for such entities as: Whittier College, Louisiana State University’s Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education Unit, Rio Hondo Administration of Justice Center, Downey Adult School, La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Center, National Crime Prevention Council and Community Development and Crime Prevention Institute. At presently, he is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Allied American University, where he teaches various courses in Criminal Justice.
 

He is a Weapons of Mass Destruction General Instructor as recognized by the United States Department of Homeland Security, and has completed such Center for Domestic Preparedness Courses as Incident Command, Enhanced Incident Management Unified Command, Instructor Training Certification, Campus Public Safety Officer Response to Weapons of Mass Destruction T-T-T, Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings, Incident Command and Emergency Management Institute’s L449 (ICS) Train-the Trainer.

Mr. Alex began his career in university law enforcement 30 years ago with the University of Southern California’s Department of Public Safety. After leaving U.S.C., he was the Chief of Security for the Culver City Unified School District. And lastly, he served as Chief of the Department of Campus Safety and Parking Operations at Whittier College from 1999 through 2010. Mr. Alex currently serves as a Deputy Chief (Reserve) for the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services Investigation and Enforcement Division.

Mr. Alex is also the Chief Executive Officer / Owner for Alternative Security Concepts, which he founded in 1992.
